Quitting the pacifier cold turkey!

I hope you will share!

Today is the day. It is the day I force my son to quit the pacifier aka “binky” cold turkey.

His last tooth (besides his 2 year molars) has come through this week so his teething days are pretty much over.  Now he just uses the binky as pure addiction and I am sick and tired of chasing it around the house.

I have put all the binkies up and he has been crying all day for one.  I feel bad but will feel worse if I have increased dental work and bill sin the future because he sucked on it too long.  I refuse to be one of those parents that has a toddler walking around with a huge binky in his mouth.  He will be 16 months in a few eeks and he has his teeth so now he can be off the binky well before 2 years old.

I will have to put up with a fussy baby for a few days but it would not take long to break the habit.  It may just take a few sleepless nights, but for those that have read my blog in the past, what’s the difference, he is not a good sleeper anyway, so I am out nothing!

I will keep you updated on the status and how many days it takes him to not “crave” the binky! For my husband and I, getting rid of them will be wonderful! They are a pain in the butt!

This face will be no more

This is the face I want to see,  binky free, it is so cute!

I LUV Sharing!

  3. Good luck with getting rid of the binky! :o)

Thanks for following me over at The Coupon Wars, I'm following back here. :o) Have a great day!

  4. It is ridiculously hard when it's your own baby to take it away. I have let him sleep wtih it since I have posted this but we had a great day yesterday as he did not cry for it once during the day.

Now I am not sure when I am gutsy enough to take it away from him at night.

Maybe I will put him to bed with it so he sucks on it initially and then steal it when he is crashed.

He still wakes up and cries at least once at night til he finds it. So, not sure if he will go back to sleep if I steal it. Guess we will find out, I am going to try that tonight!

  5. My youngest was almost 4 when he finally gave up his binky. He would stash them away where I couldn't find them. I eventually found all of them and threw them away. He cried for a few days but after that he was fine. But he would probably still take one now if I would let him LOL. I guess I let him have it for so long because he was my baby.

  6. Oh I will tell you all that during the nap and hte bed time I totally gave in. He screamed bloody murder for 60 minutes straight, while he was suppose to be taking a nap and when I gave it to him, he fell asleep in about 30 seconds.

I did manage to keep it away all day though but gave in at bed time. I am not sure if the whole sleeping time with the binky is a good idea but I just could not listen to him scream anymore. I felt like such a bad Mom! ARGH!

  7. Good luck! My oldest only took a pacifier until 10 months and my 2nd was a thumb sucker. This baby does like 1 kind of pacifier so we will see. Hoping I can wean him off of it before he is 2 too but as he is so little now I am not too worried.

  8. I broke Brayden on his 3rd birthday day! It was hard but I did not want a three year old with a binkie! It was hard for about three days but after that he was fine. You just have to get thru the initial. Also out of sight, out of mind!

  9. My baby is also 16 months! I want to get rid of that thing in her mouth SOO bad – but she only had 2 teeth up until last week and just sprouted her 2 top teeth. She has molars coming in but no other teeth in her mouth (my little jack-o-lantern)

Please update me and let me know how breaking the habit goes. It was nice to read your post – someone else going through the same thing as me :)
