This story I am about to share with you is from a very dear friend of mine. We have been friends for years and I have a lot of love and respect for her.
I love hearing stories from real people, with real, true journey to health. No fads, surgeries or diet pills. Just a lot of will and determination…Here is MM story. I hope it inspires you as much as it does me!
Read all the way down…pics included at the bottom. Don’t forget that I want your story too if you have one to share!
Here is the story>>>
One day late last summer, I woke up and thought “I am too freaking fat”! How in the hell did I allow myself to get this fat? I know exactly how; I stopped exercising and ate whatever and whenever I wanted.
I was at 298 lbs. on that particular July day. If the kids ran in the street, no way would I be able to catch them, before they got hit. I didn’t want to sit at tables, because the seats were too narrow, airline seats too. Pretty much I had hit the point where I was extremely uncomfortable in my own body. I had horrific acid reflux and was wearing a C-Pap machine at night due to sleep apnea. Really, how did this happen?
Growing up, I was extremely athletic. I won all of the “Presidential Gold Fitness Awards”, I competed in high school and college athletics. I was a solid 130 lbs of pure muscle at age 20.
At age 20, I underwent a surgery and was told that I may gain a little weight. It was also the same time I quit competitive sports. 20 years later and 168 lbs heavier. Whew!
I hired an Exercise Physiologist (personal trainer) two days a week for an hour and met with a Registered Dietician every month.
I worked my ass off with my trainer and made a goal to run in some ridiculous run in June, 2013. I exercised faithfully for the next ten months. Lunges, squats, sit-ups, push-ups, and a lot of running. I also changed my eating a little. My eating before was not too out of hand, it was more along the portion sizes that needed to be adjusted. I went from eating a large plate of food to a small plate of food. I started paying attention to calories and sugar levels, increasing more protein and natural foods and less processed crap.
So, a year later. I am down to 221 lbs. Yes, I am still overweight and considered morbidly obese. But, I feel amazing. I can run, play, I am off of the C-pap machine, off of acid reflux medications, and my cholesterol is lower. I am now taking exercise classes and I finished the most ridiculous run ever in June. Life is so much better. I would like to lose another 50 lbs. So, I will keep it up.
Sincerely-
MM
