Bumble and Bumble Straight review

I have thick and course hair that turns into a frizz mop when it is humid outside. It is actually even frizzy in dry heat and it drives me nuts. I have lived in the western desert in Utah and now live in the humid Midwest, Ohio. My hair is always one big frizz ball and it ends up in a pony tail daily.

When I was in Utah I was talking with my friend Misti about my horrible frizzy hair and she told me about the bumble and bumble straight product that she uses in her hair. She lived in Florida for over 15 years and had to deal with the frizz hair as well.

I went on line to Amazon.com and found two 2 ounce bottles for under $30 with shipping. If I would have spent $25 it would have been free shipping, but I was too lazy to look for a few dollars more so I just paid the shipping.

I used it today for the first time it was one humid and hot day and I sweat all day long. I have before and after pictures I am posting to this blog post so you can see what my hair turned out like after using.

Did I like it? Yes. Was it absolutely perfect, well not perfect but better then I have ever had.

My hair was really softer after straightening it and also rather shiny. I washed it and straightened it after breakfast and went the whole day in the heat and took the pictures after 10pm so it has been about 12 hours in between pictures.

I usually plan on having better hair on the second day after washing but my hair today was like it is on day two so I am pretty satisfied with the product. I am anxious to see if tomorrow my hair is nasty greasy or if I get another good day out of the product. I will let you know tomorrow.

10 am pictures 8-8-10

10 pm pictures, after humid heat on 8-8-10

As you can see there is some difference in the ends but all in all it still looks pretty good. Before, when I did not use anything, my whole head would be wavy and frizzy, and so I will take the extra flip in the ends because it still looks shiny and not so frizzed up. Not bad for 12 hours.

My feet are killing me!

I have been unpacking non-stop, as I have been posting for the past few days, and my feet have a constant sharp pain going through my arch and big toes.

I have been taking ibuprofen at night to help me sleep but last night the sharp pain did not go away and I was up most of the night.

I have been on my feet non-stop and have not been wearing shoes because I hate tripping over my flip flops and sweating in tennis shoes. I guess it is high time to bite the bullet and wear the shoes.

However, I am burning tons of calories so I am taking the pain. I cannot wait to get unpacked so I can get back to a regular workout routine. I miss Jillian, she kicks my butt.

Pets know when you are leaving

In the past 8 weeks I have packed to go out of town for 6 weeks and we have moved into a new rental house. When I was packing to go out of town my cats and dog were not very happy with me.
I have found from the past that if I leave my luggage out where the cats are, packed or unpacked, they will pee on it because they are little “pissed” at me. The first time I found this out was years ago and I had left my packed luggage in front of the door for the next day and woke up to smelly luggage I had to throw away and repack in a duffle bag.

This trip was worse since I was gone for so long and the cats and dog moped around the house and both got sick all over the house. When I came home my dog was happy but it has taken about a week for the cats to be OK with me and even show themselves. It is funny how they play the silent treatment with me. You would not think that animals are smart enough to realize and try to punish you when you leave but mine definitely do.

Now that we are trying to set up our new house it has been 3 days since my dog has eaten, well she finally did this morning, and the cats did not eat either or slept. The cats spent 3 days exploring and the dog, I believe, is afraid I am going to leave her again. Poor animals.

Hopefully they will get back to normal soon as we get the house in order.

The magic eraser is magic!

We are only day 3 in our new rental house and my daughter decided to draw a little flower on her bedroom wall. It did not go over well at all as you know what happens to your deposit if things get ruined right? Anyway I did find the magic eraser I had unpacked in the kitchen and immediately went into the room and that crayon came off in about 3 seconds. Seriously, I have never seen anything like that from crayon. In the past I have scrubbed and scrubbed with everything and still had a bit of crayon residue in the end. The magic eraser totally took it off.

I am not sure how it works after the crayon sits on the wall for awhile but it worked like a beautiful charm finding it right after. Well it may have been 2-3 hours but still the same day. I will definitely be buying that again when my daughter gets crayons and pencils back as I threw them all in the trash when I saw it. I was a little stressed and told her she could not have crayons back until she is 6, she is 4 now, probably won’t go past a month or so but you get the idea where I was at yesterday.

Unpacking and feeling the burn!

Day 3 of my house unpacking and my calves and back are on fire! Running up and down stairs, bending over to drag boxes up and down stairs and all over the house are giving me a big work out this week. This is the direct opposite of my vacation and I can feel it.

Still have a lot to go but feel pretty good overall. Did a measurement of my waist only after my vacation and was up ½ inch so I got depressed and would not measure anymore. Took advice from comments and did this in the morning so I know it is there lol. I will measure again when I am done unpacking in a week or two.

Half of a pound to break even

I did weeding for 2 hours yesterday and jumped on the scale right after and was back down to almost even, a half of a pound to go. When I say even, I mean almost the exact weight I was when I started my Western excursion back on June 22nd.

I would have liked to gone home a few pounds lighter but since that was nearly impossible to do I am going to be happy going back NOT a few pounds heavier.

I had to weed with a huge shovel and bend over to chuck the massive weeds out of my Moms garden so it burned it quickly.

I go home tomorrow so will get back into the exercise grind when I get there. Besides I will have no extra money for groceries when I get home so will be eating light til the 15th!

Spray bottles instead of spankings, who would have thought?

My 4 year old was throwing a huge tantrum tonight before bed and I swear I could have beat her, I didn’t, but got pushed to that edge.

There was/is a spray bottle in the room on the dresser that I have been using to do her hair every day while at my Mom’s. I grabbed it after I have given her 2 failed spankings and sprayed it into her face. She “gasped” and looked at me and did not know what to think. I only had to do this 2-3 times and she calmed down a bit. I really do not know why it worked but it did. I am now going to have a half dozen spray bottles strategically placed around the house. When the spray bottle does not become enough I may use a cup full of water over her head and see if that makes my point. Hay it is better then beating your child right?

My Mom said she used to dumb water over my sister during her tantrums and it worked. I hate to spank or hit my child at all but have spanked just a few times in 4 years. If the water works I will use it. A little water on the bed won’t hurt. Maybe if she sleeps in wet sheets my get my point across. She is a good girl nearly all the time, but the tantrums are killing me!

Burned some calories, finally!

I know it is not a lot but I mowed my parent’s yard for about an hour today and weeded the garden for about 30 minutes. I felt so good and then…had a banana split. Why can I not say “NO” while on vacation? I do it so well at home but I indulged and not feel bloated, yuck!

Going to weed for probably 2 hours or better tomorrow and will NOT eat crap after! I am down another pound today, well before the banana split. Now I am only 1 pound up from the day I got out here in June. Can I break even by Tuesday, the day I go home which is in 3 days? Going to try!

Up and Down, Up and Down!

I was really wrong when I thought I could keep up with my exercise on the 6 week trip. I am not totally glad that they trip is about over, but a little.

I have been up and down on the scale, and I HATE scales, 2-3 pounds. Right now I am up 2 pounds from June 22nd when I started my trip. I will be good for a few days and so a bit of exercise but I am eating out a lot and end up visiting a lot of people and putting the work-put off. The problem is that I am putting it off for days at a time because I get caught up in the traveling and visiting. Don’t get me wrong I love seeing everyone, especially those I have not seen for years but it is taking a toll on my body.

I am one of those people that just can’t eat healthy and lose weight. I have a dramatically slow metabolism and even when I am eating my calorie goal I will gain weight without exercise. UGH!

I am getting frustrated with myself and I need to chill off myself I know. I can’t wait to get back to the exercise routine next week. Back home and back to normality on Tuesday, well after I unpack my house. Maybe I will unpack with weights on my arms and legs and to loud hair band music and dance my way out of the moving boxes!

Boycotting antibacterial soap

I know this may sound funny but I have been learning a lot about soap lately, which does seem a little strange I know.

A couple things I have learned about the soap from nurse friends, not from the internet or I would question it more, is that antibacterial soap is really not helping us to avoid disease.

Apparently there is an outer layer of skin that we have that the antibacterial soap destroys. This layer helps coat our skin and ward of disease when it can. If we constantly put antibacterial soap on it and eat it away then we are actually exposing our skin to more germs that way.

We need to let our kids build their immune system and being exposed to germs helps. Antibacterial soap stops this from happening too much and we may see our kids actually get more symptoms of sickness then when they don’t use the antibacterial products.

It may not seem like a major deal to worry about but it does make sense. I lived a very limited sick life in my childhood and we did not have all the sanitizer and antibacterial products. I think there is something to this.
